RAILWAY CURVE



OVERVIEW

Railway Curve is an iPhone/iPad app calculator specialized in calculating all types of kinematic and geometric parameters for railway horizontal curvature.



CURVE CALCULATOR TAB

In this tab user provides curve main parameters (speed, radius, cant and transition). The application calculates other parameters (e.g. cant deficiency, rate of change of cant, etc.) and checks if they exceeds desirable and absolute values.




Possible actions:

Shake
It "fixes" a curve by changing cant value in a way to achieve to highest possible speed without exceeding any of desirable parameters.




Swipe Right
It displays a cant increment report for every meter of a curve transition spiral.




Swipe Left
It displays a cant versus maximum speeds that allow to not exceed desirable nor absolute parameters.




Speed Button
It allows to change speed unit for input and for result/report values as well. Possible speed units: km/h, mph, m/s.

Blue Button
It displays an action sheet that allows to e-mail all calculations, recommend the app to a friend, send feedback to app author and visit app webpage.




Top Info Button
It explains input definitions.




Bottom Info Button
It explains results definitions.




GAUGE SETTINGS TAB

In this tab user provides gravitational accelleration (it may differs depending on a country and local standards assumptions) and track gauge information. There is an option to choose from one of gauge presets (green colour indicates broad gauge, black colour indicates standard guage and red colour indicates narrow gauge).





Possible actions:

Blue Button
It displays an action sheet that allows to recalculate the equilibrium constant (in case that gravity and gauge were input manually), restore default gravity value and restore all default parameters.




Top Info Button
It explains main parameters.




Bottom Info Button
It provides information about where in the world a partical gauge is in use.




Shake
It opens wikipedia webpage with further information about railway track gauge.


LOCAL STANDARDS TAB

In this tab user provides desirable and absolute values for kinematic and geometric values according to local standards.





Possible actions:

Blue Button
It displays an action sheet that allows to synchronize some parameters as some of them, despite different name or unit, describe the same properties (deficiency and accelleration, rate of change of cant deficiency and jerk, cant gradient and twist).




Top Info Button
It explains a reason of synchronizing parameters and provides some formulas.




Shake
It opens www.railabstudio.com webpage.
